Duke-UNC to be shown in prime time (CBS) for 1st time

CBS Sports, college basketballs leading network broadcaster, has announced that the Duke at North Carolina game will be broadcast in prime time on Saturday, March 5, 2011 (8 p.m. ET). This marks the first time that the Duke-North Carolina rivalry will air in prime time on network television.

“Duke-North Carolina is one of the most intense rivalries in all of sports,” said Mike Aresco, Executive Vice President, Programming, CBS Sports. “A primetime telecast on CBS Sports will generate enormous interest across the nation as the Road to the Final Four heats up.”

The Duke-North Carolina game highlights CBS Sports 30th consecutive season broadcasting college basketball. The entire 2010-11 schedule will be released later this year.

Duke-North Carolina is among the most prominent rivalries in all of sports and the two teams have captured the past two national championships. The Tar Heels hold a 130-99 edge in the series which began in 1920. The Blue Devils swept the series last season.

Duke or North Carolina have taken 14 of the past 15 ACC tournament championships and have won or shared 12 of the past 14 regular-season titles.

“It is an honor for the Du for us, for the ACC and for college basketball,” said Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who is 34-35 all-time against the Tar Heels. “Hopefully the game will live up to that level of expectation.”
