Underclass jumper inventory: Hopes, dreams and dummies

Number of underclassmen who have declared for the 2010 NBA Draft: 80

Number of spots in the 2010 NBA Draft: 60

So you the issue here, right?

Even if you ignore the international players (23) and college seniors (DraftExpress.com has 14 projected to be picked), there arent enough spots for 80 underclassmen, and my guess is that, at most, only about 45 of them have a realistic chance to be selected at all, which means roughly half of the names released Thursday by the NBA belong to either A) attention-hounds, or B) idiots.

In some cases, theyre one and the same.

Me?

Im not interested in calling anybody an idiot because, lets be honest, we do that every year, and its kind of a stale. I mean, it doesnt take i.e., someone Id never heard of before is an idiot to declare for the NBA Draft. Thats clear without comment. So rather than go that route, Ive decided to properly prepare you for all the draft talk youre sure to have over the coming weeks with a Q&A that that should serve as a tremendous learning tool, if you dont mind me saying.
