Darrent Williams spent many hours as a formative years in Boys and Girls Clubs in the Fort Worth, Texas, area.

On Thursday, the Denver Broncos thrilled the late cornerback with the allowed opening of the Darrent Williams Memorial Teen Center for juvenile residents in Denver.

Williams, 24, was in a enterprise-by homicide on Jan. 1, 2007 that remains resolved.

“This him,” Denver cornerback Domonique Foxworth said. “He would have been very anxious and the entire community would have been delighted of him.”

The Teen Center, a collaboration between the Broncos and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, was made possible by the openhandedness of quite a lot of community partners, including the city and county of Denver.

“I know he has a grin from ear to ear and he knows that he’s got true family,” Broncos tutor Mike Shanahan said. “Take a look at what our players have done in his commemoration, you take a look at the instruction stick, the support human resources and so many people have gone out of the way to make this promising.”

Foxworth said the project took more than a year to complete. It the week after Williams died.

Broncos president and CEO Pat Bowlen said the project began in the of moments.

“On that severe Jan. 1 pre-lunch, our pattern was in complete disarray, including the landlord,” Bowlen said. “It was a very sad location and nobody had any answers.”

The mood new, however, with a call from Darrent’s ma, Rosalind Williams.

“I can’t recall all that she said, but it was like name a 1,000-pound stone off my back,” Bowlen said. “And the of all and sundry in the room.”

Rosalind Williams’ message Thursday was brief and cut to the core.

“With this step, communities are coming laid-back so no more mammie or priest has to go through what I’m standard through,” she said. “I know Darrent is looking down on us and he is still happy.”

Besides Foxworth, Champ Bailey, and Nate Jackson were among the dozen or so Broncos in number present at the ribbon abrasive.

The germinal came less than week after a statue of Williams was unveiled on the property.

“I look at the statue there and he looks not far off 7 feet, 2 ,” Shanahan said. “That’s exactly the way he and the way he at , even nevertheless he was only 5-8.”
