Porto takes 4-point lead in Portuguese league
FC Porto increased its lead to four points in the Portuguese league Sunday by beating Naval 2-0 to extend its unbeaten run to 15 games.
Mariano Gonzalez scored the first goal in the 30th minute before Luis Lucho Gonzalez added another in the 68th with his ninth goal of the season. Porto last lost at Naval on Jan. 11 – its only road defeat this season.
Porto, which advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals on Wednesday, leads the league with 48 points. Second-place Sporting has 44 points and Benfica has 43.
Sporting shrugged off Tuesdays European rout with a 2-0 victory over Rio Ave on Saturday to move into second after Benficas unbeaten home record ended in a 1-0 loss to Guimaraes.
Also Sunday, Belenenses and Amadora drew 2-2, Setubal beat Trofense 1-0 and fourth-place Braga was held to a 1-1 draw by Academica.
Pacos Ferreira picked up an important 4-0 win over Leixoes on Friday and moved away from the relegation zone. On Monday, fifth-place Nacional plays Maritimo.
