PUNTERS ASKING DOCTOR WHO?

Joseph Paterson New Favourite to replace Tennant as Doctor Who

British actor Joseph Paterson has emerged as the new favourite at 3/1 with bookies Paddy Power to takeover from David Tennant as Doctor Who when he steps down from the role next year.

Tennant ended months of speculation at last nights National TV Awards by announcing 2009 will be his last year as the famous Time Lord.

Other actors tipped to be in the running to fill Tennants boots as the 11th Doctor include David Morrissey at 5/1, James Nesbitt at 6/1, John Simm at 8/1 and Robert Carlyle at 14/1. Motor mouth lothario Russell Brand, whilst wacky enough to play the doctor, is considered an outsider at 100/1 with Paddy Power.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said, Earlier in the year we saw lots of support for Cold Feet star James Nesbitt and Robert Carlyle but all the chat and betting is surrounding Paterson at the moment. Perhaps he impressed producers when he appeared opposite previous Doctor Christopher Eccleston in two episodes of the show.

The shows new replacement is unlikely to be announced until next year and with so many favourites changing hands for the role Paddy Power will be watching this space very closely.
